Considering LASIK Surgery in Austin, Texas?

If you're considering
LASIK surgery in Austin, you may be wondering how to prepare for the procedure. Before you can undergo LASIK surgery, you'll need to determine if you're a good candidate for the procedure. Restivo Laser Vision is here to provide you with a guide to preparing for LASIK surgery so that you can have the best possible outcome.

How to Prepare for LASIK Surgery

Determine Your LASIK Candidacy:

The first step in preparing for LASIK surgery is to determine if you're a good LASIK candidate for the procedure. LASIK surgery is typically recommended for patients who have a stable prescription, are over 18 years of age, and have no underlying eye conditions. During a consultation with one of our experienced surgeons, we'll assess your candidacy for LASIK and discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure. We'll also perform a thorough eye exam to determine the best treatment plan for your individual needs, but those who qualify for LASIK normally:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have had a stable lens prescription for more than 1 year
  • Have no signs of glaucoma or cataracts
  • Have no corneal or other eye diseases
  • Have no prior eye injuries or surgeries
  • Do not have dehydrated eyes
  • Are not pregnant or planning to become pregnant within 6 months

Stop Wearing Contact Lenses:

Before LASIK surgery, you'll need to stop wearing contact lenses for some time. The length of time will depend on the type of contact lenses you wear, so be sure to follow your surgeon's instructions carefully.

Arrange for Transportation:

On the day of your LASIK surgery, you'll need someone to drive you home. The sedative you'll be given during the procedure will make it unsafe for you to drive. Be sure to make arrangements for transportation in advance.

Plan for Recovery Time:

While LASIK surgery is a quick procedure, you'll need to plan for some recovery time afterward. You may experience some discomfort or sensitivity to light for a few days after the procedure. Plan to take some time off work and avoid strenuous activity for a few days.

Follow Pre-Operative Instructions:

Your surgeon will provide you with detailed instructions on how to prepare for LASIK surgery. Be sure to follow these instructions carefully to ensure the best possible outcome. This may include avoiding certain medications or supplements, avoiding makeup or perfume on the day of the procedure, and wearing comfortable clothing.

Preparing for LASIK surgery is an important part of achieving the best possible outcome. At Restivo Laser Vision in Austin, we're committed to providing our patients with the highest quality care and support throughout the LASIK process. If you're considering
